Computer

Linda Garrett

St Philip’s computer lab is open from 7:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.  Students and teachers have access to the lab through out the day. 
  Kinder through 2nd grade come once a week for 30 minutes.  Students in theses grades focus on learning computer hardware terminology, how to handle disks and CDs, starting up and shutting down the computer, using the mouse, learning where the special function keys, letters and numbers are, as well as using educational software.
  3rd and 4th grade come twice a week for 30 minutes each time.  Students in these grades focus on learning computer hardware terminology, how to handle disks and CDs, starting up and shutting down the computer, using the mouse, learning where special function keys, letters and numbers are, as well as using educational software. In addition there is a strong emphases on keyboarding and word processing. 
  5th through 8th grade come twice a week for 45 minutes each time.  Students in these grades review keyboarding and word processing skills.  Topics including multimedia, communications, programming, spreadsheets, database, as well as social and ethical standards and emerging technology are studied.  There are many cross curricular projects done in these grades.

Library

Linda Laudadio, Librarian

 St. Philip’s school library is open Monday through Friday for students of St. Philip.  Hours are 7:30 to 4:00 so that students may use materials, read or study before and after school hours. There are approximately 9,000 books housed in the library.  The collection consists of up-to-date reference books, modern science and social studies tomes, current biographies and all major award winners of children’s literature. Periodicals of various interests are available to students, as well as daily newspapers and internet access.  Each class meets weekly in the library, where students in grades 2-8 may check out books, conduct research and take AR tests. Students in Kindergarten and first grade enjoy “Story Hour” or classic videos.
