Welcome back St. Philip. Our school doors were opened the beginning of August and everyone has been busy getting ready for the start of school. Our hallways had a make-over and the teachers had returned. The one thing missing was the bright faces of our students. It was with great joy that all of the faculty and staff welcomed our students on August 18th. I want to thank all those families who came out to welcome our new families and teachers on August 7th. A big thank you also to the Home & School officers who helped us make the event possible. As you can see when you first entered the school, our hallways have a new coat of paint thanks to our wonderful custodial staff. The hall floor was generously donated to us by Builders Surplus and its owner Mr. Mike Devereaux. During the last week in July, we had a crew of volunteers who put in over 53 hours getting the old floor pulled up and the new floor put in place. Those volunteers consisted of parents, grandparents, current students, alumni, and a few Jesuit students. A special thanks to all who spent many long and back breaking hours scraping old glue and putting down the floor. Thank you to Carlos Garza for generously lending us his expertise in this endeavor.
Please make sure you visit our school web site at www.stphilipcatholicschool.org. We are making many changes to it and have included an “in the classroom” section where our teachers will be posting classroom news, photos and activities. Our lunch menu and school calendar are also available on-line as well as our new school handbook. Also, school surveys are going out this week. We do receive some state money for services and it is extremely important that everyone turns them in quickly.

I am looking forward to getting to know all of you over the next few months. My door is always open if you need to stop in or just want to say hello. Don’t forget to clean out the closets and donate anything you have at home that you don’t need any more to our school garage sale. You can drop it off at any time during school hours or after any of the weekend masses. Don’t forget to sign up to help work at the garage sale. It will be your first opportunity to get in some of your service hours. Mark your calendars for the first Home & School meeting of the school year. We will be having a guest speaker who will talk to us about all the services which will be available at the Pleasant Grove library which is being built on Lake June.
God bless,
Mrs. Carol Catalano
